Teeth whitening after getting braces off.....?

I just got my braces off a couple of weeks ago, and i want to get my teeth whitened.

1) do i need to wait a certain number of weeks before i whiten them?

2)What is the best, cheap, but effective teeth whitening system? Crest?

Teeth whitening after getting braces off.....?
I am familiar with these questions as I too have had the same 'dilemma'. Here is what I was told by my dentist and representatives from several (I shopped around) tooth whitening companies:

1) A residual glue that you cannot see nor can dentists/orthodontists remove by simple polishing of the teeth after the braces are removed can remain on the surface of the teeth for up to four weeks after the braces are removed. If whitening is attempted before all of the glue comes off naturally, the potential for 'spots' or streaking on the teeth from uneven whitening increases. Therefore, I would suggest a minimum of three to four weeks before I would use any type of strong whitening outside of toothpaste.

2) Despite all of the RELATIVELY expensive tooth whitening toothpastes on the market, you can use a simple home remedy of baking soda on your toothbrush after regular brushing. This works as good, if not better than a toothpaste, and is cheaper. It does not taste great though. The problem with the 'painted on' whiteners is that they do not last very long, and over the long haul, they will cost A LOT to maintain. The alternatives to bright white from Target or Wal-mart are effective, but do not last nearly as long as those that you can buy from your dentist (Brite White and Zoom). While these are significantly more expensive than store brands, they will last one to two years without outside maintenance, and they are more effective. You could also do an in-office whitening which speeds up the whitening process (1 afternoon vs. 2 to 3 weeks with Bright White), and costs roughly the same.

Toothpastes merely remove surface stains like coffee/smoke/food from chronic build-up over the years, and only work to 'whiten' them close to back to where they were before, but Zoom or BriteWhite will whiten them well beyond what you can get from a toothpaste or naturally.
Reply:do you just put the baking soda right on the toothbrush, or do you put it w/ water or what? Report It

Reply:why dont u ask your dentist??? thats the BEST idea.. dont u think??
Reply:My son had his whitened by the dentist. they recommended waiting a couple months. The dentist method was quick but expensive, but I do know that a product called "Go Smile" is not so expensive and really works because my daughter used it. Find it on Goggle.
Reply:Crest strips by far. I love them but stay away from the premium plus because those will make your teeth really sensitive. The premiums work just fine and you can majorly tell a differance.
Reply:After you get your braces off you may want to bleach your teeth. It is the best way to whiten after braces.
Reply:i have used the crest whitestripts premium plus.

i think it was $44.99?

it made my teeth considerably whiter, but after a few months they lost it's color and went back to where i started.

the good thing about the crest whitestrips is if you are not happy you can get your money back or another box. there is a gaurantee on the box...

so it's worth the buy.. you can get two boxes and im sure it will last a lot longer.
Reply:Personally, I didn't like the Crest White Strips. I know everyone really raves about them, but I didn't care for it. The strips itself were a little difficult to put on, plus I have a tiny mouth so I think the strips should come in various sizes. If you've got a big mouth the strip itself won't cover the entire top or bottom, just the first few/couple of teeth. The ones that would be visible when you smile. Not pretty, right? So those teeths would be nice and white but the rest would be the same yellow, dull boring color. I'd try a whitening toothpaste. If you don't like that idea or the ideas provided, seek your dentist. He or she can point you in the right direction.
Reply:i had my teeth whitened right after i had my braces removed. my dentist used a bleaching gel and a tray which i took home.. used it for a couple of days, and i really noticed a big change. then i used it for about 2 months total. now, i am totally satisfied and confident with my smile :)
Reply:well... my cousin used crest whitening strips right after she got her braces off and her teeth were fine... so i suggest crest whitening strips
